While browsing the shoe department of Holts yesterday morning, I discovered the new Soirette Macarons & Tea pop-up stand. Of course I couldn’t resist & purchased a few (macaroons), even though it was only 11 am! Macarons are a sweet meringue-based confectionery made with egg whites, icing sugar, granulated sugar, almond powder & food colouring. They have become a very popular trend for wedding desserts over the past few years. I have always been an advocate of this sweet treat. However, a few years ago, while honeymooning in Europe, I discovered the renounned Macaron shop, Ladurée, in Paris, and fell head over heels for this delicate & tasteful treat. Ladurée is world-renouned for their exquisite macarons. Since a quick macaron- trip to Paris is a bit out of reach, you can certainly enjoy a great variety of locally made macarons right here in the city. Among the best for their delicious macarons are, Thomas Haas, Theirry & Soirette.
Macarons can be displayed as a show-case tower or served individually. They are the perfect sweet for a dessert table, which is a great alternative to a large tierd cake (especially if you wish to avoid cake cutting fees). A dessert table can instead offer your guests with a variety of options for an after dinner sweet treat. Take a look at some of my favourite dessert tables, and of course a window display of my all time cherished macarons from Ladurée shop, in Paris.
